Oh Canada....!!!! (Sing it)

Tomorrow we wrap up our second stay in a Provincial Park, and head to our third.  I pretty much know what to expect because they are all set up relatively the same.  No running water at our sites, but electric.  This has not been a problem at all as we have plenty of sewer storage (I am sure you were wondering), and are VERY creative with washing dishes and ourselves.  The kids are responsible for gathering water from the spigot nearest our site.  I was explaining to them that this is a common job for children around the world, and how few people worldwide actually have running water in their homes.  I heat it on the stove and we use that to wash dishes.  As for showers, they are hot, strong and free here in Canada.  We are enjoying the peace of the parks, and the kindness of the Canadians.  People here want to talk to you!  Just because they are genuinely interested!!!! On our bike ride this morning, a woman stopped her gardening to wish us "Happy trails!"  Other people see us coming and ask us where we are going.  I have a theory about this...  Scott told me an interesting fact.  There are more people in California than in all of Canada!  Think about that.  It is apparent as we drive hundreds of miles and stumble on the tiniest of small towns that pop up in the middle of no where. Back to my theory.  I think people are just happy to see a new face!  We had some Canadians ask us today if we thought we would find snow.  They said,"all americans think it's always snowy here."
The wilderness has not disappointed us.  I think I took the best bike ride of my life a few days ago!  It was on this ride that we found a seemingly limitless field of blueberries!  YUM.

Here we are at the border crossing.  A little stressful.  The guard was in the process of having us pull aside to be searched, but then another camper was already there and he reluctantly told us to "Just Go."

Scott took this amazing shot of the lake near our campsite.

Umm...  Heaven.  The animals actually eat out of your hand here!

Home.

Another campsite friend.

Believe it or not, this field is full of low lying blueberries.

Best bike path EVER.

Good place to catch our breath, and some tadpoles.

That's about 20 minutes of picking...

Grandma Preston's blueberry cake recipe.  Perfection. (That's cinnamon and sugar on top.)

Driving from one place to the next.

Blueberry pancakes with a side of blueberry cake please!

Rocky beach at the base of the "Chutes" waterfall.

Waterfall to the left.

Sad news to report.  One of Fiona's four crabs lost his life.  His name was "Egg", and he was a good boy who made us all laugh.  He reminds us that no one gets out alive.  So why wait?  Why ration passion?

Kids are happily working with clay we retrieved from the waters edge.

This guy has been waiting for a while to emerge...

Another proud baking moment.  Chocolate chip cookie bars.   (From scratch.)

Thousand Island...The Place, Not the Dressing.

We are on our last night in the great state of New York before we cross the border.  We have been advised by some to look directly into the border patrols eyes, also, do not get the giggles.  Some reports state that we will need to eat through, or throw out all produce and eggs.  So, at this point we have NO fresh produce (with the exception of a few apples).  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the HUGE bottle of whiskey Jason bought me will make it through!  The Adirondacks are so beautiful.  We hiked up to the lookout on Bear Mountain yesterday, and I was so enamored by the fern meadows that coated the sunny sides of the mountain.  So very different from the bald face granite in N.H.'s White Mountains.  On our way back from the hike we caught sight of a red fox scurrying into the forest.  So stealthy and quiet! I was a little nervous at the campground on Cranberry Lake.  There were many warnings about black bears, and the ranger warned us when we arrived that they had just been spotted around the campground earlier in the day!!!  Here at Wellesley Island the only thing to look out for are the osprey.  Guess the bears haven't made the swim over yet.
Tomorrow morning we will set out for Canada.  The drive to the next destination should take around four hours.  Not too bad.  We are not sure yet how long we will stay in Canada.  Depends on if we dip back through Michigan, Minnesota or North Dakota.

Our final farewell!

Oh, Those Green Mountains.  We went right through those!  Up and down!

Where we are currently staying.

The land across the way is Canada.

Time to make some pizza.  Dough is all risen.

Mmmmmm.....

The boys playing catch.

Fiona and I tried in vain to make this fire burn!

Fulcrum lesson.  Anyone need a quick lesson?

My lovely washer!

This handsome young devil was in the laundry room!  And I think he's a scientist judging from the t-shirt!!!

A little ass-whooping while the laundry was getting done.

Maybe someone can lend me some clarity on this illustration from the pinball machine.

Their eyes say it all.  "Ethan/ Fiona, I would love to push you in the lake...gently, of course."
