Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

It's been an exciting few weeks here.  The month started with an enormous win!!  Fiona won the lottery and got into Baxter Academy!  What a sigh of relief!  She will be going to high school next year, after being homeschooled for 5 years. Yikes!  We had fallen in love with this amazing charter school on the tour, but didn't want to get too attached to the idea of going there due to the fact that it was a lottery.  Yay!  Life lesson.  Sometimes all you have to do is show up and you win.
Scott also had a great victory!!!  He has been training hard for Crash B's (an indoor rowing competition) for months now, and it paid off!  Yesterday he came in second place in his age category!  This is a big deal!
More winnings??  O.K.  Fiona entered four pieces into an art contest, and three of them won medals!  One gold and two silver!  This Friday we head to her art opening, where all winning works from students around the state of Maine from 8th grade to senior, will have their work on display at the Maine College of Art.
February break was a blast.  Cate and Cathy joined Ellie for two nights over the school vacation, making for a fun filled adventure.  The kids enjoyed the freedom of walking the streets of Portland WITHOUT any adult supervision!!!  And we enjoyed walking the streets WITHOUT any kids dragging us down!  It was tough saying goodbye to Ellie after six nights, but my sister wanted her back, and I understand.  Poor Meagan.  We were having February vacation fun while she was sitting through huge lectures about lab equipment, and moving in large groups around a massive convention center in Florida.
I am relieved to hear some of the birds returning...  A sign that no, winter doesn't actually go on forever.
Fiona and I treated ourselves to a luxurious foot soak and massage!

Did I mention the herbal tea and super comfy chairs?

We stayed with my parents for the night before Scott's competition (in Boston).

Games are a big deal with all of us...and much better played by the fire in their living room.

Up with the sun to get to Boston in time!

It's a pretty big deal.

About to start!

Fiona in the stands taking pictures!

Ethan, mentally cheering.

Winners podium!

He's 13!!!

Gammy and Gampy got him is own tool bag, full of great tools!

Remember "Operation"?

The buzz still scares the poop out of me.

Out on a "warm" day.

Fiona and Ellie reading, Ethan and Cate playing "Life".  Ahhh.  Peace.

Good old cousin time.

We went to Caravan Beads to make some earrings.

More games...This time with Beckett and his little brother Locklan.

View from the top floor of the Map Museum (just down the street).

This lovely lady drew Fiona's winning lottery number (94)!

Here she is awaiting the news.

Her new school! (and consequently Ethan is automatically in as a sibling)

New Year. What?!

2020.  How'd that happen?  Usually I find January is a month that drags on and on, but not this one!  Warp speed ahead!  Perhaps an indication of the coming year?  Christmas was casual, and calm.  Thanks to my parents for hosting yet another elegant holiday party, we were able to see those familiar faces we see but once a year.
This past weekend was Divisionals in CT.  Scott, Ethan and I drove the 5 hours one way for Ethan to compete.  Fiona remained in Maine with Gammy and Gampy.  They enjoyed meals out, a trip to the movies, and walks with Cullen.  Ethan was the only one on his team (4 of which had qualified for this particular competition) to make it through the first round and compete the second day.  He finished 8th in all of New England for his age group. We're proud.
Kids are looking forward to Ellie staying with us over the February break again this year.  I think that makes at least 4 times!  My sister's company always schedules their conferences for this time...So, while she's in FL, Ellie will be nice and cool in Maine!
The year is off to a fast and furious start.  I'll try to keep up.

Ahhh...the holidays.  A time for all the crazies to get together.

Nope.  Not a new BBgun...just a pair of pajama pants.  He's enthusiastic.

Here's a more "normal" reaction.

Christmas morning with his new book, shirt and scarf.

Putting together some new WWII kits.

Fiona's latest sculpture.

Kids are painting some VERY old records we grabbed at the Boston public library.  They were free!
